Together with the Biarritz Eldorado Convertible, this model used to be the top of the line Cadillac for this year. The rear mounted air condition, specially placed in a separated compartment of the trunk, needed the characteristic rear air intake ducts. Only 1200 units where produced with this option.
The equally characteristic vinyl coated steel roof in matching colors, as the rest of the car shows, was standard for this car. The 305 HP 365 CID V8 engine, with double 4 barrel carburetors, was the most powerful Cadillac engine for this time. As well brand new was the automatic 4-speed Hydra-Matic transmission.
Our very rare car was delivered in Alpine White color with red and white interior. It became so rare, because many of these survivors were “decapitated”, to come into the market as much sought after Biarritz Eldorado Convertible! Both cars do have exactly the same chassis and showed as well the same base sticker price of $ 6’105.-. Collectors do agree, most surely only 100-200 original Coupes are still alive!
Today the car is already matriculated in Switzerland and received the very tough to get Swiss Veteran car status. We tested the car thoroughly over many road miles and unfortunately the engine showed some weakness, as well as the air condition. We had to proceed to a complete overhaul; especially the air condition is very difficult to repair correctly. At the same time, we restore also the whole interior, which today does not match our high standard. We plan to hopefully have the car finished by mid to the end of 2015.
See also our 1957 Cadillac Convertible Series 62. Basically these two cars fit very well together and should not be separated, since both resemble each other very much, to be on the other side quite different!
The selling price ex warehouse Switzerland shall be approximate CHF 150’000.-
